A new study is coming out which shows a link between the use of the commonly used antidepressant drug Effexor and birth defects. Effexor is in the SNRI class of drugs which is similar to the more commonly known SSRI's, such as Zoloft and Prozac. One of the lead authors, Carol Louik came out with a study in 2007 which showed that the SSRI Paxil, caused a variety of birth defects. The present study is part of the ongoing National Birth Defects Prevention Study conducted by the CDC. The study results showed a 2 to 6 times increase risk in a mom having a baby born with: Anenecephaly, Spina Bifida, Cleft Lip/Palate, Gastroschisis as well as a variety of heart defects. The results are similar to the earlier Paxil study. The Tracey Law firm is currently working on Effexor cases as well as the broader SSRI litigation. Please contact us for a free consultation
