Many studies have shown an increased risk to mom's and their babies with the use of SSRI's. However, a recent study shows that Antidepressants like Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil and Lexapro, are the 3rd mostly prescribed group of drugs. Using CDC data, researchers found that Antidepressants prescriptions written by non-psychiatrists, more than doubled from 1996 to 2007. Interestly, during the same time period, the rate of Autism grew steeply. The link was explored in a recent study by Lisa Croen, of Kasier Permanente. The study showed that use of SSRI's during pregnancy is associated with a four times increase risk of having an Autistic child.
