A recent study from Denmark of over two hundred and sixteen thousand women has shown that the antidepresant group called SSRI's increase the risk of heart defects. It comes on the heels of several other studies which have found similar results. In particular the study showed a three times increased risk of Cardiac defects for the SSRI Zoloft (aka Sertaline). Another SSRI- Lexapro (aka Escitalopram) was found to increase Septal defects 300% as well as double the risk of "any malformation". Further, SSRI use in general ,was associated with a more than doubling of Serious heart defects. The Study's main author Jette Kornun, said his findings suggest that the association between Cardiac Malformations and Maternal SSRI use is causal.
