So what exactly is the E.R.V.A.L. system?

While it may not be familiar yet, if Eric Carpenter's dream translates into a reality, drivers across the country will use his invention. The E.R.V.A.L. system, which stands for Emergency Rollover Vehicle Awareness Light, was designed by Carpenter in an attempt to develop some sort of warning that would help drivers avert toppled vehicles following rollover car accidents.

Consisting of several bright L.E.D. lights, the system has a built-in sensor that recognizes the vehicle's position and is set to activate whenever the car tips past 45 degrees in any direction. The device would ride under the vehicle so that, in the event of a rollover crash, other drivers would be able to recognize the need to proceed carefully.

Carpenter also believes that it will help responders locate the vehicle and any injured parties more quickly.

Carpenter should know about the struggles encountered by emergency responders. For the past nine years, the E.R.V.A.L. inventor has been a member of the Los Angeles Fire Department. During that time he has seen more than his fair share of rollover car accidents.

The problems Carpenter has either witnessed or experienced firsthand are issues that affect drivers and emergency responders across the country. While Carpenter developed the system in California, individuals from Texas to Pennsylvania may potentially benefit from it.
